Get active! It’s easy in Morehead City. The Morehead City Recreation Center offers a gymnasium, fitness center, weight room, and fitness classes and programs, as well as basketball courts, a football field, a fishing pier, and a playground. The Morehead City Sports Complex offers Rotary Park soccer fields and the Puck O’Neal baseball field, as well as an exercise trail and picnic shelters.

Get outside! Head to a one of the many local beaches, or launch your boat at one of Morehead City’s ramps to explore by water. There are also many parks located in the city, offering amenities such as ponds, benches, gazebos, playgrounds, grills, public water access, tennis courts, and nature trails. Sugarloaf Island, located across from Downtown, is just a paddle away and offers secluded nature trails and serene water views.


Morehead City is served by Carteret County Schools, which offer an environment of learning focused on helping students achieve their highest level of performance and graduate prepared for successful professional careers or continued education. There are 17 total public schools in the district, including 10 elementary schools, six middle schools, and four high schools.
