Charters & Guides

New to fishing or want to try a new kind of fishing? The Crystal Coast is the place to do it! Fishing charters are available in Emerald Isle, Atlantic Beach, Morehead City, and Harkers Island, for those looking to take a boat out into deeper waters, and guides throughout the area can offer services that include blanket licenses, safety gear, and of course, intimate knowledge of the top fishing spots on the coast. Fly fishing, deep sea, river, Sound, ocean, offshore and on shore… there’s a guide for everything.

Fishing Piers & Marinas

A wealth of community docks and piers throughout the Crystal Coast area offer plenty of opportunities for both Bogue Sound and Atlantic fishing. The two largest of these piers are Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier of the Emerald Isle and Oceana Fishing Pier of Atlantic Beach, both of which offer affordable daily fares for anglers. Additionally, many marinas, such as Beaufort Docks, Sea Water Marina, or Portside Marina, will rent boats to those seeking offshore fishing.

Shallow Water Fishing

It’s not all about ocean or Sound fishing. There are a plenty of rivers, creeks, lakes, and inlets perfect for fishermen seeking quiet waters. Both onshore fishing and offshore fishing—usually from shallow drafting boats—are common in these areas.

Common Fish of the Crystal Coast

There are a multitude of fish to be found along the Crystal Coast and its many inlets and tributaries. Flounder, red drum, black drum, striped bass, speckled trout, sheepshead, ladyfish, and cobia are all common. The sizes and species of fish most common will, of course, depend on the season, with large cobia being popular in spring, black drum in fall, flounder in summer, and striped bass and speckled trout in January and February.

In open ocean, it’s not uncommon to land bluefish, spanish mackerel, flounder, grouper, or even shark. Recommended areas include inlets and jetties, or waters over coral reefs and plant life.
